Obituary for Byron Lee Raughton
Byron Lee Raughton, 78, of Macon, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Funeral services will be private. His final resting place will be beside his beloved mother & father at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Born in Hogansville, Georgia December 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Trenton Jackson Raughton and Era Irene Johnson Raughton. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army where he received a Honorable discharge. Byron worked many years at The Macon Telegraph in Macon, GA until March 1999. He spent his time playing golf often which he loved and he enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. He was very passionate about sports and enjoyed watching his favorite teams on television.
Byron is proceeded in death by his infant son, Roger Wayne Raughton, his loving parents, Trenton & Era Raughton, his older sister, Betty R South, brother in law, Harlin H South, his older brother, Billy T Raughton, his brother in law, Billy Barfield and his nephew Randall Bruce Hulette.
He is survived by his children, Staci L Odell of Macon, GA and Terri L Trakul of Bartlett, TN, Sister, Barbara R Barfield, Six grandchildren, Lauren Day, Connor Swem, Dean Batcher (Megan), Haley Moore, Trenton Trakul and Anna Trakul, and 2 great grandchildren, Hunter Batcher and Ronin Middleton, and many nieces, nephews and their extended families who all loved him very much.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff of the hospitals, rehab center, doctors and nurses who cared for him so much this last year and most especially in his final days. We also thank and truly appreciate Randy Jones and the staff at Fairhaven Funeral Home in Macon.
