Richard Edward Greene, Sr. of Washington, D.C. passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was born February 13, 1946 to Edward Preston and Ruby (Brown) Greene. He graduated from Eastern High School and attended Howard University in 1965. On June 4, 1966 he married Memory Sorona Snead of Washington, D.C. and entered the Army in 1967. Growing up he was a junior deacon in his church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Richard was a running back in high school and college and in his youth led his DC singing group whose claim to fame was opening for James Brown. Richard spent most of his career with GEICO. He was an avid sports fan, fisherman, and family man, who enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children, and grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife, Memory Greene; children, Richard Greene, Jr. (Karen) and Tonya (Greene) Twigg (Bret), nephew, Cereius Greene, that he and his wife raised from age 6, his sister, Barbara Burrell, two grandchildren, Richard Greene III and Jessyca Greene, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Ruby, his sister, Adrianne, and his grandmothers, Ada Blair and Annabell Bunn.
A visitation will be held at 2pm and a memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Lake Wildwood Baptist Church, 701 Greentree Pkwy, Macon, Georgia 31220. A funeral service and burial will be held in Maryland at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family graciously requests that donations be made to Lake Wildwood Baptist Church.
