Obituary for Irene Counts (Rakes)
Irene Rakes Counts 97, of Lizella, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Macon, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertie and Ruth Rakes of Clintwood, VA.; her husband Vance Counts of Abingdon, VA.; and son Ralph Farmer of Westland, MI.
Irene is survived by a son Jerry Farmer (Margie) of Lizella, Ga.; daughter Lola Light of Roanoke, VA.; sisters Mildred Mullins of Monrovia, MD., Gaynell McCoy of Clintwood, VA., Anita Adkins of Gate City, VA.; Loraine Triplett of Bristol, VA.; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and enjoyed doing crafts especially sewing. As an active member of the local chapter of Project Linus she made and donated hundreds of blankets to that organization.
A visitation and funeral service with the family will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Farris Funeral Services Chapel at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Lee Highway in Abingdon, VA, followed by an interment at Forest Hills.
In Macon, Ga the family is being served by FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services and by Farris Funeral Services in Abingdon, VA.
