James Richard Carter Jr, 81, of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, at his daughter’s residence in Macon, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Bishop Sam N. Clements and his son in law, Reverend Billy Flowers will officiate.
Born in Stedman, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Richard Carter Sr, and Jennie Iula Beard Carter. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Pennington Carter and was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Boyd, and Sue Carter.
He was the owner and operator of Carter Construction for over 50 years in and around Cleveland, Tennessee, where he attended the Dwelling Place Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Ronda Flowers (Billy) and Adana D. Carter; Grandchildren, Ronnie Flowers (Heather), Carter Flowers, Ryan Flowers (Grace) Jaden Wade, and Dalen Carter; great grandchildren, Cloie Temple, Mariska Flowers, Alana Flowers, and Maverick Flowers; Siblings, Bill Carter (Eileen) and Jerry Ray Wood (Patti) Sister-in-law, Sharon Carlton (Daniel) Nephew, Nathan Carlton (Jennifer) and Great niece: Charlotte Carlton; and several other nieces and nephews.
