Obituary for Janis Marie Horne (Mason)
Janis Marie Horne, 75, of Macon Georgia passed away on February 24th,
2023 due to lung cancer.
Janis was predeceased by both of her parents, Thelma Mason and Farris Mason, her brother Bill, as well as two of her sons, Ashley and Cody.
She is survived by her other brother Randy, her children, Misty, Drew and Jesse, and her grandchild, Tyler.
Janis Marie Horne, (aka Jani-Grani) maiden name Brown, was born in Macon, GA, on a beautiful sunny day on September 4th, 1947. Her mothers name was Thelma Mason, and her fathers was Farris Mason. She was raised in Macon as well, living and growing up in her parents home with her two brothers, Bill and Randy. When
she turned 18, she moved out on her own from home to home, until she met her husband, Samuel Douglas Horne. Janis and Samuel bought land for a home in 1969 and had a new home built. Here Mr and Mrs Horne would give birth to Misty Horne and Ashley Horne and continue to grow their house into their true home. Ms Horne was a homemaker, while Mr Horne was a carpenter. Ms Horne was very talented at what she did, whether it be by freshening up their home with modern decoration including beautiful glassware, memorial knick-knacks, and even detailed hand painted flowers on the walls. And wherever there was room, there would always be a
garden bed, pots, or something to hold plants and flowers. As Ms Horne and her family grew older, she wasn't only taking care of her children. Since her and her husband were family oriented by nature, they were
always open to taking care of any grandchild, cousin, or even a friend's child. Because of this, she received the proper nickname of Jani Grani. Ms Horne even adopted three of her grandchildren, Cody, Jesse, and Drew.
Ms. Horne was preceded in death by her husband of 50 plus years, Samuel Douglas Horne who passed away in March of 2019. She would continue to live on until February 24th, 2023 when she passed away from lung cancer.
