Obituary for JoAnne Woods Thompson

JoAnne Woods Thompson, 82, of Macon, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022. The family will have a time of visitation at Liberty United Methodist Church on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Wayne Anthony will officiate.
JoAnne was born in Adrian, Georgia on June 20, 1939 to the late Francis Ephriam Woods and Willie Edenfield Woods. At a young age, she married the love of her life James, “Tommy” Thompson, and together they spent 51 wonderful years together. JoAnne was a homemaker, raising two children and later in life a caregiver to anyone in need. JoAnne was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class as well as the Nurture Prayer Chairman. She was a true southern lady, and in her free time loved to bake cakes, make flower arrangements and singing. She loved gardening and her garden was always immaculate. In her younger years, JoAnne and Tommy were members of several bowling leagues in the Macon area. Her greatest joy in life came from her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, as well as, her husband; James “Tommy” Thompson, son in law; “J” Smith and siblings; Roy Woods, F.E. Woods, Jr., Edward J. Woods, James R. Woods, Paul Woods and Christine Woods.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving family. Her daughters; Kim Smith, Jill Douglas, and Deborah MacMillan (Douglas, Sr.). Three grandchildren and Eight great grandchildren, as well as, one sister; Barbara Willoughby.
