Obituary for John Gilbert Dees Sr.
John Gilbert Dees Sr. 86, of Macon, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Jerry Garner will officiate. The family will have time of visitation on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 10:00 am till service time in the church.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late William Jefferson Dees and Lessie Mae Beaty Dees. After he was born his family moved to Tift County, Georgia, where he grew up on a dairy farm, then moved to Macon where he worked for the Colonial Bread Company retiring as a manager after 35 years of service.
Mr. Dees was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and oversaw the maintenance of the church building and grounds. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved to be in the outdoors, especially going hunting and fishing.
He was survived by his wife of 66 years, JoAnne Snipes Dees, children, John Gilbert Dees Jr. (Deborah), Andrea Bone (Harold), and Jeff Dees (Pamela); Siblings, Faye Knowles (Gene), Peggy Jo Carson (Chip) and Robert Dees; Grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Nation (Thomas), Joni Michelle Dees, Chance Thomas Brown (A.J.), Amanda Hope Brown, Chasen Layne Brown, Christy Power (Drew), Staci Bennett (Garrett) Abby Lester (Jason) and Blake Dees; Eight great grandchildren.
