Obituary for Mamie Tyler (Roberts) Kitchens
Mamie Tyler (Roberts) Kitchens passed from this earth and entered the domain of her heavenly father on January 27, 2022. She was born in Bulloch County, Georgia and later relocated to Metter. In the early 1940s Mamie and two of her sisters, Lonie and Carrie Lou, came to Macon for work. In 1941, Mrs. Kitchens professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized in the fellowship of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Metter. When she came to Macon, Mamie united with Mikado Baptist Church where she was a member for over 70 years until her passing.
In Macon, Mamie worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant for many years. She met and married J.P. Kitchens, a quiet, loving and unassuming man who also hailed from Metter. Their marriage lasted 39 wonderful years, until J.P.s death in 1980. This union produced three children: Wayne, Ray and Elaine. Years later Mamie met and married a good man, Avery Roberts. She never changed her name from Kitchens because of their age and years of family history, but their friends still referred to them as Mr. and Mrs. Roberts. Avery passed in 2013, after they were married for 21 great years.
Mamie is the last of thirteen children, 8 brothers and 4 sisters. She was also preceded in death by her 2 sons, Wayne and Ray, and a grandson, Brandon. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Elaine Sellars (Jim), daughter-in-law Patricia Kitchens, a granddaughter, Michelle Kitchens, 3 grandsons: Johnny Kitchens (Michelle), Benjie Kitchens (Linda), and Brian Kitchens (Renee), 7 great-grandchildren: John, Brittany, Jessica, Autumn, Brayden, Benjie, and Kayla as well as 2 great-great-grandchildren Hanna and Carson.
A celebration of Mrs. Kitchen’s life will be on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ed Chambless officiating.
