Obituary for Marvin Leon McCallum

Marvin Leon McCallum, 85, of Macon, entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at Midway Baptist Church, Lizella, Georgia on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM with burial following in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Fairhaven Funeral Home on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
Mr. McCallum was born on May 5, 1937 in Macon, Georgia. He attended Lanier High School and he married Ruth Cone on August 30, 1957 in Macon, Georgia. He retired from Armstrong World Industries after 40 years to live where he referred to as “the country.” He was never one to sit still long; he could often be found on the tractor, piddling around the yard, or running up and down the road in his truck. His influence on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren cannot be measured. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish, and hear the sound of a pack of beagles on the trail of a rabbit. He was an active member in his church, Midway Baptist Church, for many years. Marvin lived life to the fullest, enjoyed his family, and in his golden years loved to travel with Ruth. He was a loving and devoted husband, Daddy, Papa, Uncle Marvin and Mr. Mac.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Olie McCallum; brothers, Virgil McCallum and Bobby McCallum; sisters, Martha Bennett, Dorothy Dobson, and Helen Ryles.
Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 65 years, Mrs. Ruth Cone McCallum; daughter, Kim McCallum Hill (Johnny) and son, Ken McCallum (Judy); granddaughters, Kristi Hill Riley (Jeremy), Heather Shippers (Jason), and Misti Freiberg; great-grandchildren, Lexi Freiberg, Dani Shippers, Jake Shippers, Lance Freiberg, and Emmett Shippers; and Uncle Marvin to many nieces and nephews.
While flowers are welcomed, donations to Pine Pointe Hospice will be appreciated as well. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff of Pine Pointe Hospice and the care and compassion they showed them during this time. The family may be contacted at the family residence.
