Growing up, Sister and I didn’t play together that much. Being a girl and guy, we didn’t have the same interests. But I did like teasing her because she got so upset. Over the years, both of us told the story of the time she chased me around the house with a knife.

Later, she got married early and I went off to college. But one Christmas soon after I married Arlene, Sister brought Mom and Chucky to see us in Iowa. That was a special time. She bought a white puppy with a curly tail that she had for a long time.

Over the years when our family came to Georgia, we shared lots good times around Macon as well as making trips to Jacksonville to see family there. In more recent years when I flew out by myself, I spent a good deal of time with Sister. She often bought me boiled peanuts and Finches barbeque which I didn’t get in California. Sometimes we made the trip to Florida and enjoyed talking a lot on the way. In 2018 Arlene and I stopped by on our van trip and had a nice time with Sister although we missed Buddy. During that visit, Sister put together a very nice family reunion. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of family I hadn’t seen in a long time and may never see again.

Since then our relationship with Sister depended on phone calls. I liked to call to chat about family news and to ask her if she remembered events I couldn’t recall completely. I’m really glad we had those talks. We probably got closer during these last years than at any other time. I will miss her.
