Mary Ethel Ussery Newberry, 71, of Gray, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021. A celebration of Mrs. Newberry’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 1:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with her son, Pastor Chuck Beaver officiating. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. The family will have a time of visitation on Monday, April 5, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home.

Mrs. Newberry was born on June 12, 1949, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Herman Hartsel Ussery and Mary Frances Hunnicutt Ussery. She was retired from Middle Georgia Paper, where she worked as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Newberry loved her dog Phoebe, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from those who called her Mom and “Re.”

Mrs. Newberry was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Howell Franklin “Buddy” Newberry, Jr. and brother, Jack Ussery.

Mrs. Newberry is survived by her daughter, Wendy Newberry Gaskin (John “Jeb”); son, Chuck Beaver (Kristen); grandchildren, Courtney Beaver, Jared Beaver, and Aubrey Gaskin; brother, George Ussery (Arlene); and several nieces and nephews.
