Mattie Evans Sanders, 79, of Macon, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and friends, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. We will all miss our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She taught us all how to love, laugh and smile in every situation. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 12 noon at New Heights Baptist Church in Macon with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Reverend David Garrett will officiate. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens, Dublin, Georgia at 3:00 p.m.
Born in Cochran, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Evans and Louise Battle Evans. She was a retired loan officer with Macon Federal Savings and Loan, where she served in the banking industry for over 20 years.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of New Heights Baptist Church where she attended the Joy Sunday School Class and served in many areas for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy Ray Sanders, children, Billy Ray “Bill” Sanders Jr. (Susan), and Robin Sanders Bacon (Barry). Siblings, Rebecca Cannon (Cecil), Mildred Brown, Gloria Williams, Loretta O’Neal (Joe), Mallory Evans (Linda), Linda Carroll, Wendell Evans (Margie), and Thomas Evans (Bonnie). Grandchildren, Haylee Bacon Dennis (Chris), Brandon Taylor Bacon (Beverly), Hunter Ivey (Kaylee), Mason Sanders, and Meredith Sanders Brooks (Evan). Great grandchildren, Lainey Dennis, Mary Charles Dennis, Matthew McDaniel, Bennett Bacon, Carter Bacon, Ryleigh Ivey, Jaxon Ivey, and Larkyn Brooks.
