Melvin Herman “Red” Spillers, 87, of Byron, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. The family will have a time of visitation on Thursday, October 6, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home. Immediately following, there will be a celebration of Mr. Spillers life in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private.
Mr. Spillers was born on March 4, 1935, in Butler Georgia, to the late Mr. Herman Spillers and Mrs. Esther Vann Spillers. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Spillers retired from Robins Air Force Base, where he worked in civil service. He was an avid sports fan; one of his most favorite teams being the Atlanta Braves. Mr. Spillers will be remembered as a sentimental man, who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent much of his free time fishing, traveling across the United States in his motorhome alongside his beautiful wife, and going to yard sales where he would always try to find a small toy car, truck or tractor for his grandchildren. Mr. Spillers will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Mr. Spillers was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Spillers.
Left to cherish Mr. Spillers memory is his wife of 67 years, Mary Cook Spillers; sons, Gene Spillers (Sheri) and Roy Spillers (Millie); four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In honor of Mr. Spillers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS ASSOCIATION or charity of your choice. Flowers will also be accepted.
