Obituary for Sarah Sapp Smith Darley (Whelchel)

Sarah Sapp Smith Darley, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the age of 88. The family will have a time of visitation to greet friends on Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Brad Marchman officiating.
Sarah was born on October 19, 1932 in Athens, Georgia, to the late John T. Whelchel and Mildred Miller Whelchel. She faithfully worked at Robins Air Force Base in Electronics and retired from Civil Service after 26 years. Sarah was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, where she was active in Agape, and the Linus Sunday School Class. Above everything in life Sarah loved the Lord her Savior, and her family. She was the true matriarch of the family.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husbands; James Carroll Sapp, Bobby Joe Smith, and Arthur C. Darley as well as her son; James “Mike” Sapp. Siblings; James Whelchel and Betty Jo Duckworth.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving family; Marsha Knight, Carroll Mitchell “Mickey” Sapp (Renee), Tamee S. McDonald, and Tonya L. Craig (Mike). 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. As well as a host of extended family.
