Sidney Thomas “Tommy” Garrett, Sr., 78, of Macon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 31, 2018. The family will have a time of visitation on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 at FairHaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Elim Baptist Church. Entombment will be immediately following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Reverends Johnny Baggett, Jerry Brown, Charles Carter and Monty Febuary will officiate.
Tommy was born on January 26, 1940, to the late Willie T and Mary Etta McCook Garrett. He worked the majority of his life in baking, retiring as a salesman from Colonial Baking Company. Tommy was a faithful and active member of New Elim Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for close to 40 years. He loved his church family dearly, but nothing made Tommy happier than spending time with his family, they were his pride and joy. Tommy spent the last 60 years married to the love of his life Shelby, and his main goal in life was to make her happy. He worked alongside her at her restaurant, Shelby’s Diner for several years, and he truly enjoyed helping her. His favorite saying was “yes ma’am”. Together they built a great family who will now be left to carry on his legacy.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents as well as 7 siblings.
Survivors include his loving wife, Shelby Belflower Garrett, 5 children; Sidney T. “Tony” Garrett, Jr. (Karen), Gerald “Jerry” Garrett (Jackie), Paul Garrett, Lisa D. Summers (Greg) and James Benny Garrett (Kim). 9 grandchildren; Colby Garrett, Sydney Garrett, Dallas Scott, Brandy Lineberger (Shawn), Kristina Garrett, Amanda Garrett, Tabatha Moore (Jason), Devin Garrett (Heather) and Sean Anderson. 6 great grandchildren; Kaleigh, Trevor, Kenzie, Paisley, Chandler, and Chase. 1 great great grandchild; Caleb Watson. 4 siblings; Bernice McGaha, Wesley Garrett, Mary Ruth Pilcher and Etta Mae Ammons. As well as a host of nieces and nephews.
