Obituary for William Allen Stokes

William Allen Stokes, 80, of Lizella, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 7, 2021. The family will have a time of visitation on Thursday, February 11, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 12, at 1:00 PM in the cemetery of New Elim Baptist Church. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings will be required at all services for Mr. Stokes.

Mr. Stokes was born on January 9, 1941, in Macon, Georgia to the late Edgar Weldon Stokes and Frances Irene Harper Stokes. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Stokes retired from Roadway Express where he worked as a truck driver. He was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, where he attended the Jay Rowland Sunday School Class. In his free time, Mr. Stokes loved playing golf and riding motorcycles. Mr. Stokes was an avid fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his wife Marlene Hutchinson Stokes; son, Mark Allen Stokes; and brother, Edward Weldon Stokes.

Mr. Stokes is survived by his son, Victor Stevenson (Michelle); grandchildren, Andy Stevenson (Kaitlyn) and Jerry Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Rory Stevenson and Harper Stevenson; step-daughters, Brooke Zuckerman (Russell) and Heather Lous (Todd); sisters, Frances Louise Ray and Gwendolyn Stokes Woodell (Lowery); life-long friend Ethel Chancey; best-friend, Brenda Ross; and several nieces and nephews.
