William Randolph Harris, Sr., 96, of Lizella, passed away Thursday January 25th. Randolph served his country during WWII from 1941 to 1945 in US Army during the Pacific Campaign with the 77th Liberty Division as SGT in the 307th Infantry Anti-Tank Company. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, 4 Bronze Stars, and the American Service Medal. After returning home he worked as a self-employed tile setter and farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Harris, Sr. and Beulah Johnson Harris,
his wife, Laverne L. Harris, and 3 sisters, 5 brothers. Survived by 1 brother William M. Harris, Jr. of Macon, Ga., 2 sisters, Laura Nell Sullivan of Warner Robins, Ga., and Josephine Brown of Atlanta, Ga.
Father of 5 children, Beverly H. Shea (Don) of Columbia, MD, Sylvia H. Little (Richard)
of Bentonville, ARK, Debra H. Hilton (JD) of Gray, Ga., William R. Harris, Jr. (Gwen)
of Byron, Ga., and Phillip O. Harris of Gray, Ga. He also has 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on Monday, January 29th with service to follow at 2:00 in the church with Pastor Lee Griffin officiating. Fairhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
