Obituary for Neva Hughes Tanner
Born October 27th, 1938 on a farm near Valdosta, Georgia, to David and Winona Hughes, Neva Tanner, 79, recently of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Saturday, May,19, 2018. Losing her parents at a young age, she and her three siblings grew up in Macon, Georgia at the Methodist Children's Home. She attended Miller High School and then went into nursing.
After meeting Stanley Tanner, she was married in 1961. Neva left nursing to become a homemaker and mother to their two children. Throughout her life they lived in Georgia, Florida, and finally Alabama to be near their children and grandchildren..
She is survived by her husband, two children, five grandchildren, and her sister Mary Alice. Her parents, older sister, and brother preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held in Birmingham Thursday, May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at a local residence. In Macon, Georgia, a brief visitation will be held on Friday, May 25th at noon at Fair Haven Funeral Home preceding the graveside service. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery located at 1301 Riverside Drive. Fair Haven Funeral Home is located at 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31203-2525. https://www.themethodisthome.org
