Born in Macon to the late Jack and Sara Hall, Cloyd, a 1958 graduate of Lanier High School for Boys, always set high goals for himself. He earned an A.B. in Economics at Mercer University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina. He also completed Doctoral Studies at Georgia State University. From 1970 to 1974 Cloyd proudly served as Special Assistant to then-Governor Jimmy Carter. He was instrumental in bringing YKK to Macon and served as Governor Carter’s Envoy to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. After his time assisting Governor Carter, Mr. Hall became Vice President of Capricorn Records. While at Capricorn, he served as a liaison to the U.S. Congress and to the Georgia Legislature, which resulted in his drafting anti-piracy legislation enacted by Congress. In 1976 he became Mercer University Medical School’s Vice-President of Development, helping to secure state and federal grants for the University. Mr. Hall also served as Director of the Georgia Office of Indian Heritage in Atlanta and as a Crisis Conciliation Specialist for the United States Justice Department. During the late 1990’s, Mr. Hall taught history as an adjunct, both in Mercer’s evening and state prison programs. In his free time Mr. Hall enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. When asked about his wide-ranging career, Mr. Hall would say, “I wanted to be a part of making things happen for improvements in people’s daily lives.” He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he will be laid to rest in the Memorial Garden.
